What (the heck) is this bot supposed to do?

[edit]

Read more about the reason why this is a monologue (instead of a dialogue) at User talk:DrTrigon/archive#Your bot, Revision 87140658 of User talk:DrTrigonBot and Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems/Archive 32#Help requested on User talk:DrTrigonBot.

The final goal we are working towards, is a general classification bot - currently the bot is under continuous development. At the moment it is in fact only useful with a limited range of media files (images, ...) and therefore is runned accordingly. More functions, feature extractors, categorizations, supported file formats, ... are added from time to time. The progress can be followed at w:en:User:DrTrigonBot/doc#Categorization or w:de:User:DrTrigonBot.

A lot of documentation about the bot was created already, but it's still just a small part of what could be done. E.g. the template docs, the java script, the docs on enwiki, ... (everything should be linked from User:DrTrigonBot). May be they are hard to find and/or badly promoted?! If you like/want/can help here - please step forward!

The topic covered by this bot including computer vision and else are not completely trivial and thus need some background knowledge. It is very useful to be familiar with its basic concepts in order to understand how it works and provide constructive input - therefore please confer the documentation provided in various places mentioned before. If something is left unclear or uncovered at all - please let me know in order that we can improve this. --DrTrigon (talk) 16:59, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Documentation

[edit]

Hello Dr Trigon,

it would be helpful if you could add some kind of documentation about what people are supposed to do with your automatic categorization. Should the cat categorized by drtrigonbot be deleted? And what about the other meta-info? Is this supposed to stay?

Secondly categories like "Created with Adobe" are hidden so if the bot only adds this category next time the categorization bot makes its anual run these files are going to be marked as not categorized again. Also these categories should not be added manually but with a template.

Cheers --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 18:52, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

please check your bot

[edit]

see [1]. you added such categorization:

  • Category:Uncategorized templates
  • Category:Uncategorized pages
  • Category:Uncategorized categories

to almost 60 files. You can find it now in category:people and Category:Media needing categories - No timestamp given--Pierpao.lo (listening) 12:18, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Can you tell me what this category is for? It's categorized as an image file format, which doesn't look right. Is it supposed to be "images categorised by DrTrigonBot using the JSEG algorithm" or something? If that's the case, shouldn't it be named something like "Categorized by DrTrigonBot using JSEG" ? --ghouston (talk) 01:12, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Same for Category:OpenCV. --ghouston (talk) 01:15, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Same for Category:Exif. --Jarekt (talk) 13:11, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A Note For You

[edit]
File:Juan Carlos I Of Spain And Sophia of Greece and Denmark At The Balcony On The Restoration of Kingdom Of Spain.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
