Great ! How come it has not been used until now ? By the way, is it necessary to have longitude before latitude ? Other templates have it the other way round.--Zolo (talk) 10:26, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, I guess I was used to the x,y convention rather than y,x. But since it is only used three times we could still change it. It is unfortunately a pretty tedious template to craft manually. So I would have to ass an editor tool. But there are efforts to link to the OpenStreetMap database, which already contains zillions of paths and polygons, which would make this effort redundant. --Dschwen (talk) 20:50, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I think changing to lat-long would be better as it is still time to do it and Google provides data this way, so copy-paste is easier. Do you know what is on track with OpenStreetMap. As much as I like the idea, I hope we can have data hat are usable on other websites (sometimes it is just better to have satellite imagery than a street map for example).--Zolo (talk) 21:23, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please change for lat-long. I can help if you want, but we must do it before its use widespread. And with the swisso-french team, it should widespread rapidly... Pleclown (talk) 19:05, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Changed! Funny story, in my code the variables are already labeled in lat-long order, but the KML file that is generated, uses long-lat order and not lat-long order as I assumed! --Dschwen (talk) 19:40, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
P.S.: existing polygons are cached and will only be reparsed if the are changed, so right now all polygons still will look right on the map despite having the wrong order now. --Dschwen (talk) 19:41, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Great thanks. Not really important since there are apparently some new stuff in preparation, but do you think it would be feasible adapt the zoom to the maximum length/height of the polygon, to make it look better for large things (say "0,0 0,180" title=equator :)--Zolo (talk) 20:20, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Aarg I should have looked at Wikipedia, that states very clearly that KML uses the long-lat order. And I have also just found a simple tool to get the coordinates in that order (I cant find how to get a polygon's coordinates directly from Google maps.). So isolated points are lat-long, Google map's blog is called "latlong", and KML is long-lat. Sighs...--Zolo (talk) 21:26, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I could write a swap lat-long javascript tool... --Dschwen (talk) 15:17, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It could be nice thanks. I dont like to say it now, but now that I know that KML is long-lat, I would be inclined to support your previous format, since it allow quicker copy paste and would certainly make more sens to those with experience in mapping. For those like me that are more familiar the more visible long-lat point format, we could have a flashy-ugly banner explaining why it is long-lat....Or maybe there are some other widely used formats that are lat-long ? --Zolo (talk) 15:59, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop changing. The lat-long is the natural way to encode. It's the way Google Maps give a point, the way OSM places its points, the order used in GPX file format...It's the way it was teached in school (at least in France). Pleclown (talk) 18:27, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

QI-Bot arbeitet immer noch nicht einwandfrei

[edit]

Hallo Dschwen,

elif line == "New images go below this line. -->" and inConsensual == 1 :
An der wurde ein Leerzeichen entfernt. Jetzt gehts wieder. --Dschwen (talk) 16:46, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GeoPolygon and {{Institution}}

[edit]

Hi, As a result of this discussion I added some of the functionality of {{GeoPolygon}} to {{Institution}}. It works fine, as far as I can tell, however I wanted to make sure with you that it is fine, since it is using your toolserver tools. --Jarekt (talk) 04:31, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, why not? --Dschwen (talk) 13:06, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

--Wladyslaw (talk) 11:25, 10 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

QICbot

[edit]

Dear Dschwen, the bot is extracting images much later than it is supposed to, and even when it does, it ignores some promoted images and leaves them behind. Can you please fix these problems? Thank you. Gidip (talk) 10:50, 10 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Geopolygon

[edit]

Hi!

I've used your code on fr:wiki to create a template. it is used in this article: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lac_L%C3%A9man (Contour in the infobox). It works nicely, and I want to thank you for this template.

I also have a request. Could it be possible to change the z parameter of the google maps url ? maybe via a parameter? If you look at my example, the perfect z parameter would be 10 and not 14.

Thank you for your time.

Using Hugin

[edit]

Hi Daniel,

I've been strugling with Hugin to do something it is not supposed to do: putting together an image which was scanned in parts. It should be the easiest thing in the world since no perspective corrections are to be made. Still the application doesn't seem to be able to deal with it. I have done the obvious thing, which is to enter a very large focal distance (should be infinite), with no success. Can you please help? I'm asking the question here because the answer might be useful for other editors. All best, Alvesgaspar (talk) 11:38, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sure Hugin is able to deal with it. There is a proper way, by just optimizing rotation and translation (there is no preset for that combination, so you have to manually check those parameters)! Do not screw around with the focal distance. --Dschwen (talk) 12:17, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Select the custom parameters below and select only rotation, x shift, and y shift, for images 1 and up (do not select image 0). --Dschwen (talk) 12:33, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Daniel but I can't find any "custom parameters" section. Also, when the images are loaded, we have to fill a template with some information for each of them: focal distance, field of view and multiplier. I have a 2011 version, btw. Alvesgaspar (talk) 14:05, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I think I got it now. I suppose the only rotation that matters is "roll" and projection must be "rectilinear". Alvesgaspar (talk) 14:29, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, rotation means roll, the other rotationlike elements are called yaw and pitch. And yes, the projection must be recitlinear. --Dschwen (talk) 18:34, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Valued images candidates

Hi Dschwen, just letting you know - there's a backlog for VICbot to sort out on the VIC page, including some files promoted in October which haven't been dealt with yet. Thanks. --Claritas (talk) 21:02, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bug in DschwenBot?

[edit]

Hi! User:Strainu noticed a problem with the coordinates of this file File:Alba Carolina Fortress 2011 - Francisc De Paola Ravelin Sign-1.jpg, from a location in Romania, and which I uploaded. They are incorrect, and looking deeper, it seems to me that the bot which extracted the coordinates from the EXIF has a problem. This is the data from the EXIF:

GPSLatitudeRef - N
GPSLatitude - 46 4 2.99 (46.067497)
GPSLongitudeRef - E
GPSLongitude - 23 34 24.65 (23.573514)

I looked at a few other files from the same category which I uploaded (the ones who have names starting with Alba Carolina Fortress 2011) and they seem ok. But I haven't checked them all. Not sure if relevant, but I can tell you that I added the coordinates with Picasa. Also, I found a bug related to Picasa-generated EXIF parsing on Commons. Happy holidays! --Codrin.B (talk) 17:26, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This comes from a faulty run, where multiple instances of the bot were running at once, and they shared a critical cache file. This is not related to the mediawiki bug you mentioned, I'm using my own exif extraction. --Dschwen (talk) 14:33, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Good to know. Thanks for clarifying. Do you know which images were affected and can you rerun?--Codrin.B (talk) 15:47, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Finding that out would be a major pain in the behind. I'll probably have to rerun a few thousand images around October 1st. My estimate is that about 100 images are affected. --Dschwen (talk) 02:19, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hi Daniel, Happy holidays!

I wanted to ask you about your image that was requested for the documentary to be shown at National Geographic Channel. Have you watched this documentary, and, if so what is its name? I would like to watch it. Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 02:46, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Mila, happy holidays to you too! Actually I don't remember that request. Are you sure it was one of my images? --Dschwen (talk) 15:32, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am sure, but if you do not remember, I guess you've never watched it :(--Mbz1 (talk) 15:44, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

VICBot arbeitet nicht

[edit]

--Berthold Werner (talk) 18:27, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Daniel, Is there anything I can do to help or take some maintenance load of your should wrt to VICBot? Is it some bug that needs to be found, some toolserver downtime og database changes, which are causing the problems? I am thinking about that I could wake up User:SlaungerBot from its sleep and implement VIC closure logic to run "on demand" and manually without using a database dump to have more stability in the process and less dependence on personal availability. Currently, the project is practically stalled as there are too many nominations on the nomination page for the templates to render them (too many template arguments). --Slaunger (talk) 21:06, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, sorry, I'm pretty busy IRL due to an upcoming move. I have not diagnosed the problem. Only did one manual run, which spat out an Erreur. I remember I fixed something a few months ago by just adding SLOW_OK to one of the db queries. This would be my first try (as well as outputting a more verbose error message). --Dschwen (talk) 21:38, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And me sorry too, because, naturally you should spend your time on your IRL move. I do not think I have the priviledges (and knowledge) to try and fix the issue. I have only tried pywikipedia w/o db access and on my own machine. --Slaunger (talk) 21:45, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I think I just found the error. --Dschwen (talk) 22:47, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hurray! What a relief. It is like cutting a boil to release pressure. Thanks a lot, Daniel! --Slaunger (talk) 22:50, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
May I add my congratulations, as well? Thank you. --Walter Siegmund (talk) 23:08, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The camera used for File:CTA red line rerouted.jpg?

[edit]

Hallo and well done for getting File:CTA red line rerouted.jpg featured on English Wikiepedia. I'd like to enquire as to what camera you used to take that photo as I am considering upgrading my camera to improve File:A62 Stock 5163 at Chorleywood.jpg as well as other photos on Flickr (my username is Trowbridge Estate). Thank you! --Marianian (talk) 13:25, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It was taken with a Canon EOS 5D and a Sigma 150mm lens (the macro lens - it focuses up till infinity). This particular picture was composed from two or three shots side by side (panoramic). But that won't be an option for a moving train. --Dschwen (talk) 13:33, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

On the organization of highlighted (FP/QI/VI) media in Commons main category structure

[edit]

Hi Daniel, I have started a discussion regarding some thoughts about getting a better integration and display of FP/QI/VIs in the main category structure at Commons:Village pump#Highlighted content in main category structure. I gave to think of you in this respect, because you know the circuitry on FP/QI/VI very well, and you are also very knowledgable regarding the technical possibilities we have for organizing media. --Slaunger (talk) 22:41, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

QI post bug

[edit]

Hi Dschwen,

It seems there is a bug with your bot: [1]. The second image is not displayed, and it is not mine. In addition, the QI template was not added to the description page. The confusion comes probably from [2]. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:02, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, to be honest, this looks more like a bug with the nomination. The QI page should mention that the notification always goes to the first user mentioned in the nom, and that was you. How did this nomination ever work without the File: prefix? How could people have judged it? Does MW now allow for this syntax? The I should update my bot (or at least trap such mistakes). But for now I'd ask you to fix the screwed up nomination, please. I'll deal with the bot. --Dschwen (talk) 19:41, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Does this still work? Since Google is claiming it is a paid service now. -- RE rillke questions? 18:08, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That sucks. I'll see what I can do. --Dschwen (talk) 19:52, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unassessed Quality Images

[edit]

Hello, Dschwen! I found a lot of images (almost 300) which are both in the category Unassessed QI candidates and have the {{QualityImage}} tag (for example File:11-07-31-helsinki-by-RalfR-096.jpg). I think User:QICbot should remove the Unassessed QI candidates category when adding the {{QualityImage}} tag. I can fix them using AWB, but I guess it's better if they are fixed by User:QICbot. Razvan Socol (talk) 05:58, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, thanks for pointing that out to me. Those are renominated images and I totally forgot about this case. --Dschwen (talk) 20:10, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

VICbot function?

[edit]

In cases where an image nominator is not the uploader, would it be possible to have VICbot also notify the uploader? It seems like it would be a nice courtesy to let the uploader know. Thanks, cmadler (talk) 13:44, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ignorierte Files

[edit]

Hi.

-- Niteshift (talk) 19:40, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Gib mir mal bitte ein Beispiel. Der Bot sollte eigentlich nix uebersehen. --Dschwen (talk) 19:56, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(Block log); 21:38 . . Dschwen (talk | contribs | block) unblocked Mbz1 (talk | contribs) ‎( unblock for the sole purpose of editing/anonymizing attribution on her image pages)

[edit]

Hi, as blocking admin, it would have been nice if you had consulted me on this. Perhaps you could explain your reasoning for this unblock. -mattbuck (Talk) 21:47, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry matt, that was my bad. Too much going on. Should definitely have contacted you. Mbz1 has approached me a few days ago about anonymizing her contributions (as far as possible without revision oversight). The display of her real name and website apparently has caused her some grief in real life. I have complied with that request using a bot, but a few cases remain and I have asked her to take care of those herself manually. Since a block is not a punishment, but a protection of the commons community, and since Mbz1 has agreed to use the temporary unblock only to fix her image attributions, I went ahead and unblocked her for that purpose. --Dschwen (talk) 21:57, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Righto, just wanted to know. -mattbuck (Talk) 23:00, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I can tell, she was blocked for three weeks for one edit. It that correct? Malcolm Schosha (talk) 12:52, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I just know that she was blocked for three weeks. I wasn't around for the events that led to that block. I'll let Mattbuck answer that (if he still watches this page). I'll go ahead and reinstate the block, even if it personally hurts me to do so, as Mila has been nothing but warm and friendly in our direct interactions. She assured me via mail that she would not abuse the unblock for anything but adjusting her attribution(quote: "there could be a situation, when I need to change something else. I am not going to do anything else."). I'll let Mattbuck make the decision whether to lift the block ahead of its expiration date, as he was the blocking admin (and i already went around his back without notifying him about mu unblock. Sorry again!). --Dschwen (talk) 15:11, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This probably should be taken to one of the noticeboards, but at the moment I am suffering from wiki-fatigue, and I do not know if Mbz1 would even want that. Thanks for the reply. Malcolm Schosha (talk) 15:54, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was going to ask you to take a look at User talk:Mbz1, but I guess I had better respond to this here.
Mbz1 had been warned previously about importing fights to Commons, and given Beeblebrox has <200 edits in the past year, and, as best I can see, no previous talk page interactions with Mbz1 here, it seems rather unlikely this little spat is in any way related to Commons. In fact, it is apparently an import from meta (see User_talk:Russavia/Archive_5#mbz1) and en.wp. Mbz1 has 5 past blocks with the main reason "intimidating behaviour/harrassment" (albeit a few overturned), so it's hardly as if she hasn't been warned about her behaviour. In fact she was blocked for a week just a month ago for that reason. What she engaged in here is cross-wiki harrassment, and that is simply unacceptable. I accept I did not research this when imposing the original block, but I would like to show you the last 3 events from her en.wp block log:
  • 02:34, 7 February 2012 Hersfold (talk | contribs) changed block settings for Mbz1 (talk | contribs) with an expiry time of indefinite (account creation blocked) (Reblocking with flags enabled due to persistent off-wiki and cross-wiki harassment of another user. Please appeal this block to the Arbitration Committee at arbcom-l@lists.wikimedia.org)
  • 00:58, 9 February 2012 Guerillero (talk | contribs) changed block settings for Mbz1 (talk | contribs) with an expiry time of indefinite (account creation blocked, cannot edit own talk page) (Talk page access is only being used for soapboxing at this point. (Carrying through Hersfold's block message: Please appeal this block to the Arbitration Committee at arbcom-l@lists.wikimedia.org))
  • 01:22, 12 February 2012 Risker (talk | contribs) changed block settings for Mbz1 (talk | contribs) with an expiry time of indefinite (account creation blocked, e-mail blocked, cannot edit own talk page) (Email used to further dispute. (Carrying through Hersfold's and Guerillero's block messages: Please appeal this block to the Arbitration Committee at arbcom-l@lists.wikimedia.org))
Now, normally I'm of the school that what is on en.wp stays on en.wp, but it's also important to look at meta, where again, in February there was a block for the same thing - personal attacks on other users. These make me more convinced that my block was correct. Now there's a lovely little message for me in her talk page edit summary: get off my talk page. It was not a good faith block to begin with, and now after ignoring this http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Mattbuck#User:Mbz1_block there's no doubt the block was imposed by a power hungry bully. Now, I disupte the idea this was not a good faith block, and I don't think I'm a power hungry bully (although I do want to rule the world). What did I ignore? Dschwen telling me he'd reblocked her. I didn't ignore it, I didn't see it until just now, I think it got chucked in to the same "you have messages" message as a QI promotion, but what exactly is there to respond to? All I could really have said is "ok". Frankly, given a further look at her behaviour I am in favour of an indefinite and full block, with revoked talk page and email rights, but given I am now involved I will not impose that. I do however request that the block remain for at least the full three weeks. -mattbuck (Talk) 13:20, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And now we have this little screed - [3]. I'm not entirely sure, but I think I'm being compared to the Spanish inquisition. Someone is anyway. -mattbuck (Talk) 16:56, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Mh, that is an unfortunate development. You probably don't need to hear it, but I cannot hurt to state it: I don't think you are a powerhungry bully either. I will not meddle with this matter any further. --Dschwen (talk) 17:55, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you read the Meta link Nemo used as justification for his block of Mbz1, it appears to be something other than a personal attack...at least it does not appear so to me. Moreover, the reaction of certain WP administrators to the RfC Mbz1 initiated on Meta was rather problematic. Unfortunately the Meta RfC itself, and its talk page, seem to have been hidden.

--Dschwen (talk) 15:08, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
gadget jStorage.
mw.loader.using('ext.gadget.jStorage', function() {
  /*...*/
  $.jStorage.set('key', { value: 'Ok!' });
});

-- RE rillke questions? 23:18, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Documentation for gadget authors

[edit]

I saw you had done some work on a couple of gadgets. We are trying to start a library for gadget authors to use. Please check it out and post any questions or comments there. -- MarkAHershberger(talk) 17:28, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mbz1 attribution

[edit]

You may need to come up with a new method, probably involving reupload, as most images have attribution in the comment section of the upload log. -mattbuck (Talk) 05:11, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yikes! I haven't thought about that yet. Re-uploading >2000 images, not what I had in mind. I'll point this out to her. --Dschwen (talk) 12:19, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It will be nice, if this could be done somehow in a bot. Thanks, Matt, for thinking about this. For example in this image there is my real name in the comments. I would really like to erase my real name from everything that is associated with wikipedia, but I am not sure how to approach this task. I wonder, if your bot could be run from an oversiter account, and maybe it could be done that way? Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 19:10, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In theory running the bot from my admin account to delete all old image revisions after re-uploading. Should be sufficient. Unless you are worried about version histories of the description pages themselves. --Dschwen (talk) 19:32, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, I am OK with the history, but remember I asked you about this in a very beginning, and you said an admin cannot delete image's description?--Mbz1 (talk) 20:29, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, probably a misunderstanding. An admin can delete a file-revision (after a new file is uploaded for example). An admin cannot delete a page-revision (i.e. a history entry in the page history). There is a distinction between a file and the description page of a file. --Dschwen (talk) 22:59, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
An admin can hide the username, edit summary and changes though. -mattbuck (Talk) 00:03, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So, Daniel, if you could remove my name and my user name, which is my real life initials, from a current version in the comments section, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 01:10, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thanks, I did not know that. The interface for that is a bit hidden/obscure. Mila: are you referring to a particular comments section? --Dschwen (talk) 01:34, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am talking about situations as it is seen in this image for example. See comments in the file history section? But, if it is hard to do, it's OK I guess. I took lot's of your time already. Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 03:39, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GPS aus Exif nicht ausgelesen

[edit]

--Dehio (talk) 21:07, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nee, ich muss mir sorgen machen. Der bot lief nicht. Auf dem Toolserver gibts gerade etwas hin-und-her. Da ist meine crontab uebern Jordan gegangen. --Dschwen (talk) 21:23, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
-- DorisAntony (talk) 07:56, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DschwenBot and {Template:Credit line}

[edit]

Hi Dschwen :-) First, thank you very much for your bot, that (usually) works excellent, and i appreciate this bot-service very much :-)))

Some days ago, i started to add {Template:Credit line} to as of today around 100 uploads, resulting in p.e. that 'result', i.e. 'destroying' the upload-template (it was ok before) ??

Question: What is going 'wrong', how can we/i avoid that ??

Thanks for any adivice (of course also in German) and, in general, for your excellent bot-service :-))

Best regards, Roland 18:05, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Oh, sorry about that. It looks like my bot was a bit confused by the template in a template scenario. I guess I'll have to fix the code to be more robust. --Dschwen (talk) 18:43, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Dschwen, no problem, will fix it within the related uploads from time to time (no hurry).
To avoid too much code-fixing: Can i p.e. 'place' that template at an 'other location' within the upload form ?
Best regards, Roland 18:49, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
I think just leaving a space between to two closing pairs of curly brackets should help already. --Dschwen (talk) 19:00, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Dschwen, thank you for that hint: tried that, seems to 'fix' the problem, i.e. will do so for the next uploads :-) Best regards, Roland 19:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Large image (or not)

[edit]

Hello,

I'm a bit surprised by this edit, as the file size is 38 310 × 1 218 pixels (58.88 Mo). In my opinion, this picture is clearly a large one. What is your opinion? Binabik (d) 12:30, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

38310*1218 = 46661580 < 50 Megapixel. Filesize is completely irrelevant, what matters is the uncompressed size, once the file is loaded into memory. Please do not take it personal, this just is not a particularly large file. Its height fits comfortably onto a current screen. If you like to have a link to the zoom viewer please use the {{Zoom}} template --Dschwen (talk) 14:59, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think it should not only consider the Megapixel; it should consider the File Size also(Only images). Because, 0I think it is not (or not only?) the Pixels causing the browser crash, the file size also matters. I think it would be best if you could consider the Image size > 10MB --Vaikoovery (talk) 16:20, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You are simply wrong here. File size in most cases is way smaller than uncompressed image size. 10MB is a ridiculously now limit for "large" filesizes. It corresponds to the memory requirement of about a 3 Megapixel image! You are waaaaay off base here. --Dschwen (talk) 16:34, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, fine. Tell me, almost "72MP+" image(File:00_210_Bw_Angerbrücke,_ET_5084.jpg) has only the file size "3.99MB". You think(or in real) that only the resolution can cause the browser crash? Not the Image file size? --Vaikoovery (talk) 16:44, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That seems very obvious to me. Why would the filesize play any role here? And what did you intend to show with that example anyways? My point is that the small amount of memory it takes to buffer file data before uncompressing it is insignificant compared to the large amount of memory it takes to hold the uncompressed image data. Isn't that blatantly obvious? --Dschwen (talk) 16:58, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What I was thinking is, Both the image resolution and image filesize will be considered by the browser while loading it. So in both case the browser may crash/freeze. If it is true, then in that case the filesize also should be considered right? --Vaikoovery (talk) 17:22, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, it is not. --Dschwen (talk) 17:40, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, I don't have taken this personal, I just didn't notice that the limit is 50 megapixels, not 50 megabytes. I'm definitely not a specialist! Sorry for the inconvenience. Tschüss. Binabik (d) 21:07, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dateien suchen

[edit]

Hallo Dschwen, kann der Bot eventuell eine Dateiliste generieren nach folgenden Bedingungen: Category:Files by User:Smial from de.wikipedia AND ("keine EXIF" OR "keine Koordinaten")?

-- Smial (talk) 18:08, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- A.Savin 10:51, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Berlin hackathon invitation

[edit]

I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon, 1-3 June in Berlin, Germany. Registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, then please register by May 1st and mention it in the registration form.

This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, teaching, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the upcoming launch of Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.

We want to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!

I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC and our other events.

Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page at mediawiki.org. Sumanah (talk) 01:02, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RegEx

[edit]

Regex for AWB: (\{\{Assessments[^\}]*?)([\|]\s*)quality(\s*=\s*[^\|\}]+)(?=\s*(\||}})) would pick up the quality parameter in the assessment template if the template exists. {{Assessments}} is typically single lined when used.

Is the regex understandable for you?
Pheeewww.... this would match the parameter (including the = sign) in $3 (the third brcket set). Why is there i need for the second bracket set? Is the whole expression a no-match if the assessments template does not exist (i.e. if the first bracket is a no-match!) ? Would I just replace the whole thing in case of a match with "$1$2quality=1$4"? Thanks --Dschwen (talk) 16:08, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I feel a disclaimer-ish remark is necessary at this point. I am merely trying to discuss the technical aspects. You are a fellow bot operator and I will acknowledge that it more than sucks to be asked to change the code out of the blue. I am in no way trying to force you to change the code or anything the sort. I am merely discussing ideas in case you want to volunteer to change the code and if there is consensus for said change. I was merely trying to understand the problem and would like to apologize if I had sounded forceful.
The regex will indeed not match at all if assessments template isn't present at all. The regex above is searching for a valid "quality" parameter. This can be used to check to see if someone has already put the value in manually. A simplified version can be used to check if assessments template is present at all. I try to break apart my regex queries to avoid unnecessary complexity. I found it much more easier to have multiple simpler regexes to run checks rather than have one massive one. I am unsure what you mean by the "second brackets" but if you mean the closing brackets, it is vital to only check within Assessments template so as not to interfere with other content which may legitimately use identical parameters somehow.
  • I used the regex ((\{\{Assessments[^\}]*?)([\|]\s*)com2(\s*=\s*[^\|\}]+)(?=\s*(\||}}))) and matched it with $1$2quality$3 to replace all instances of the parameter "com2" with "quality" on the assessments template. I did not add any new "quality" uses, just renamed the existing uses. There are currently 970 uses of the "quality" parameter and about 10,000 total uses of the assessments template.
  • If you wanted to change the value of the quality parameter from whatever it is to say 2, all you'd need to use is the regex posted on top of this section and match it with $1$2quality=2. I realize this is unimportant for quality images as there is only one type of them but it is meant to be an example.
  • If you wanted to add "quality=1" to the existing assessment template you would use the regex (\{\{Assessments[^\}]*?)(?=\s*(\||}})) with $1$2quality=1 to match.
  • If you wanted to remove "quality" parameter all together you'd use (\{\{Assessments[^\}]*?)([\|]\s*)quality(\s*=\s*[^\|\}]+)(?=\s*(\||}})) matched with $1. Not sure if we would ever want to do this for any parameter.
So this single regex is pretty robust in handling different situations with simplification. If I needed to change two parameters I would have used the regex multiple times as needed.
On a related note I am also trying to find a reliable regex to place Assessments template after the information template. I have not found a reliable regex so far for this as Information template often has templates passed to its parameters or even entire tables passed in so it is quite messy.
05:00, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Let me know if you have further questions.
Thank you, that pretty much clears it up. I will implement this into the bot and activate it as soon as a consensus in favor is reached. --Dschwen (talk) 19:20, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
About that... I noticed two flavors of QI templates. One the traditional one and two the "retouched" one for small crops and etc. Is this correct? I do not believe a consensus to use {{Assessments}} will be reached any time soon. There seems to be fundamental issues unrelated to the actual technical issues I want to deal with.
{{RetouchedPicture}} has nothing to do with QI, or which one are you referring to? Did I see that right, you are going to Wikimania as well? --Dschwen (talk) 17:39, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DschwenBot

Servus Dschwen!

Privacy

[edit]

In File:Handtekening Jacob Nijhoff (1723-1794).jpg‎, File:Jacob Louis Nijhoff (1782-1844).jpg‎, File:Gezin Nijhoff in 1798 door Rienk Jelgerhuis.jpg and File:Paulus Nijhoff (1756-1832).jpg you created a reference to my home address. Why are you violating in this way my privacy? Furthermorehe the pictures are not made there but in Groningen in de Library of the University. Gouwenaar (talk) 12:21, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gouwenaar. I operate a bot (automatic program) that extracts location information that is already contained in the image files, and makes them accessible using the {{Location}} template. In the vast majority of cases this is expected and desired behavior, as the geographic information is usually added on purpose to the images. In your case it seems that you were unaware, that your camera includes this information with every picture it takes. For technical reasons (GPS reception, camera was still acquiring satellites) the location may be wrong (and in this case storing the location of the last place with good GPS reception). So, please do not worry. I'm not a stalker that is camping outside of your home. I suggest you deactivate the GPS module of your camera or purge the information from your files before you upload them. TLDR: the information was not added by me, my bot just made it more visible. --Dschwen (talk) 12:50, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I had already seen it. GPS reception in the building of the library was impossible and thus the wrong location was added. But why should a location be added to images (see the four images) taken from a book? Gouwenaar (talk) 15:05, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't want the bot extracting the information from your files, add {{bots|deny=DschwenBot}} to the file-description page while uploading or simply remove the wrong location from Exif using a geotagging/exif-tool before uploading or remove the {{Location}}-template after the bot came to your images. -- RE rillke questions? 17:43, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but what I don't understand is why the information was added to this four images, but not to this image File:Bakkerstraat Arnhem omstreeks 1870.jpg, derived from the same set. Gouwenaar (talk) 20:22, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There seem to be no metadata. Compare File:Jacob_Louis_Nijhoff_(1782-1844).jpg#metadata with File:Bakkerstraat Arnhem omstreeks 1870.jpg#globalusage. Perhaps you edited the latter one with a different imaging-software? Or the metadata are simply corrupt. -- RE rillke questions? 20:34, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The five images were made in the same building on the same day and all these images were edited with the same software Adobe Photoshop 3.0. Gouwenaar (talk) 20:59, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with the QIC bot, or vandalism?

[edit]

Hello Dschwen.

Would you please be kind enough to have a look here, and the message above, it seems to be a problem... Thank you very much.--Jebulon (talk) 13:35, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
See 6 sections above #FYI. Sorry, busy now IRL, relatives are visiting. --Dschwen (talk) 14:47, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, ✓ Done. Have a happy sunday.--Jebulon (talk) 14:59, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- A.Savin 17:13, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- A.Savin 22:41, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bist Du Hellseher?

Gute Idee! --Dschwen (talk) 23:53, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Location missing

[edit]

-- H005 22:09, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

QI Schweiz

[edit]

Hallo Daniel,

Grüße --Wladyslaw (talk) 20:44, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Gruss --Dschwen (talk) 21:00, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bot, bitte!

[edit]

Gruß Parzi (talk) 06:01, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

--Dschwen (talk) 13:08, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Danke. --Parzi (talk) 14:39, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

3 law violations

[edit]

You are engaged in 3 rule violations.

1) revert a deletion request tag
2) undo without explanation
3) keeping pictures that are not used.

If you insist on these violations, you will be reported to admins accordingly. --Camoka4 (talk) 21:22, 18 May 2012 (UTC):[reply]

Well, you just did report this to an admin :-). I rolled back an anonymous IP contribution with no explanations. It was obvious that the contributor does not understand the speedy deletion criteria. In particular "not being used" is not a speedy criterion. If you think that 3RR applies here you are mistaken, my edit was an uncontroversial housekeeping action of a clear case of speedy deletion abuse. --Dschwen (talk) 22:11, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
For further reference Commons:SPEEDY#File. Note the absence of "not being used". I would also urge you not to try wikilawyering about "3 law violations" without checking the corresponding policies first. Hope that closes this case.--Dschwen (talk) 22:16, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Stories Project

[edit]

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

Your photos are amazing. You have so many featured photos!

I'd very much like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia.

Thank you for your time,

QI nom

[edit]

Daniel, I think you know me better than that! It was not my intention to paint you as a QI-hunter. You should have noticed the smiley. I just wanted to say that for me the technical issues I mentioned were not on a par with the other image (which is clearly QI). Sorry if I got you on the wrong foot, you misunderstood me.  B.p. 12:02, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I shouldn't have snapped at you so sarcastically. Sorry. However, please consider that the bar for an image to become QI is given by the QI criteria, not by the other pictures a photographer uploaded. --Dschwen (talk) 14:37, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please delete the geodata revisions

I would have to delete the files entirely, because they contain the geodata. My bot merely extracted it from there. Is that what you want? --Dschwen (talk) 12:52, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, just delete the files entirely. C3F2k (Questions, comments, complaints?) 13:35, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your bot never seems to add any {{Location}} template to my photos. Do you know why? For example, File:Nordkoreas ambassad på Lidingö.jpg has GPS coordinates in the EXIF (visible using Exiftool, not visible using Mediawiki for some reason). --Stefan4 (talk) 22:52, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

QIC usability

Hi Daniel,

--Alexrk2 (talk) 21:49, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Possible problem with DschwenBot

[edit]

Hello Daniel, I am writing to let you know that there are two photos in category Media with GPS EXIF which the bot has not been able to process for a long time: Nordkoreas ambassad på Lidingö.jpg and Haimburg 02.jpg. The first one had incomplete GPS data in EXIF so I uploaded new version with correct data (I hope) but the bot still was not able to process it. The case of the second file is strange because its GPS data looks fine to me and there is also another file of the same author and made with the same hardware which the bot processed successfully. Jdx (talk) 20:06, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, mh, yeah. The Northkorean embassy pic had broken EXIF data and the bot remembers broken images and skips them... unfortunately forever. Let me think hw to improve this. --Dschwen (talk) 22:34, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It also breaks if someone overwrites a photo with a completely different photo, for example File:Professor Ruben Canelo.JPG. --Stefan4 (talk) 20:14, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bot not finding GPS tags

[edit]

Your bot recently rejected File:St. Nicholas Ave and W 155th St intersection, Manhattan.jpg and said there weren't any geocoding EXIF tags or that they were invalid. Could you give me some hints what might be wrong with the tags? I get a bunch of GPS-related tags if I feed the file to exiftool:

$ exiftool -a -u -g1 IMG_8764.jpg | grep "^GPS"
GPS Version ID                  : 2.2.0.0

Have you had time to look at this? Apart from hacking your script to have it run on my local files I don't know what I can do to debug this. –Magnus Bäck (talk) 01:48, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at it. Downloaded the file and went through it manually using pyexiv2 (at home I may have used a more current version). No errors. Sorry no idea why the file failed. --Dschwen (talk) 19:20, 26 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bot has dupilicate geocoding

[edit]

Hi, my congratulations for the Bot, really usefull. It still can improve. Yesterday the bot added geocoding to File:Pericas BCN farmaciaBusquets PonsGallarza92 001.jpg‎ from EXIF. However, the image already had. I uploaded it with Commonist which toke automatically the geocode from EXIF too. I didn't change anything in order you can look exactly what happened, Thanks !--amador (talk) 04:36, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently commonist is the tool that needs improvemnt, not my bot! It is wrong to put the exif coordinates with the camera position into the Object location template. Also the placement of the Object location template inside the Information template is wrong. Is this an automatic setting by commonist? Or did you have to configure it that way? --Dschwen (talk) 14:13, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If commonist extracted the location from the EXIF data, why does it put source:cawiki into the coordinate template?! It should be source:exif. This is very broken behavior. --Dschwen (talk) 14:19, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bot issues

[edit]

Hi. Your bot has managed to publicise my home address (though it got it wrong) from some EXIF data I left on some photos I took at home by mistake. I've reverted these, but I'd prefer it if it was expunged entirely. How can I go about this? --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:49, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

First of all I'm sorry this has caused you stress, but it was not my bot who published your home address, it was you! First step was uploading the geodata embedded in the file (at this point it was available to every interested person), second step was posting on my talk page and confirming it to be your "home address" ;-). Reupload the images after you have removed the geodata (over the old images!), then message me and I will delete the old revisions that contain geodata. --Dschwen (talk) 15:00, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Blank line in QIC nomination tool

[edit]

Hi Dschwen,

It should be a quick fix, but could you modify the QIC nomination tool so that it inserts blank lines between each nomination if you are nominating multiple images? Much appreciated.

King of 20:28, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

But why? It currently inserts a blank line after each block of images a user nominates. I personally find this to be more structured. --Dschwen (talk) 21:48, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Co-Urheber" bei QIC nicht stimmberechtigt?

[edit]

Hallo Daniel,

Viele Grüße --Wladyslaw (talk) 10:59, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hab mal Senf dazugegeben. --Dschwen (talk) 20:39, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dschwenbot

[edit]

Meinst Du wirklich Google Maps?

Your bot rejected the request

[edit]

No idea why it states that "image does not contain or contains broken GPS data" (for five photographs 1, 2, 3, 4 and , 5) when the data is correct and is located in the EXIF data. Bidgee (talk) 03:20, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Same here on all files currently in Category:St. Engelbert (Mülheim) . RalfHuels (talk) 06:12, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is most likely due to an out of date pyexiv library on the toolserver. I have had a similar bugreport a little while ago. I tried to run the bot on my computer at home and the coordinates were extracted fine. My plan in the long run (1-2 months hopefully) is to migrate the bot to wikimedia labs. In the meantim I can look if I can get an newer version of the lib installed locally in my home dir. --Dschwen (talk) 14:16, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, there must have been a bug in the bot or maybe a temporary site outage. This caused a few images to fail. Those were added to a blacklist so that the bot doesn't spend time on the during the next run. I deleted my blacklist and am currently rerunning images from the last 200 days. --Dschwen (talk) 17:32, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. RalfHuels (talk) 19:06, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I found a deeper lying problem. Apparently there is a new standard for GPS tags under XMP.EXIF. My bot did not look fir these tags previously. I fixed the bot today an am rerunning it over old uploads. --Dschwen (talk) 22:58, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GFDL

[edit]

Hi Dschwen,

I wonder if you are aware of a gestating proposal being drafted at User:Colin/GFDL. Comments on the talk page? This follows a week-old similar proposal at Featured Pictures that indicates the strength of feeling against GFDL but also for dealing with this at policy level. I'm thinking of this going live soon. However, I'm not sure where to place it? Directly at the Village Pump or on a page of its own with adverts at appropriate forums? Cheers, Colin (talk) 20:15, 15 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why don't you move it to Commons:GFDL license proposal (or something along those lines) and leave a link at the village pump. I'm on travel currently and will join in the discussion once I'm back (this weekend). I share the sentiments against GFDL (in particular the 1.2-only version) for use as an image license (although I used it myself in the old days (2005) thinking it was a truely free license...). --Dschwen (talk) 08:58, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like a good idea. However there are three possible strategies to take:
  1. Target GFDL for now. This is where the problems currently lie and everyone is familiar with the issues. I currently think we should go after this one first.
  2. Target any unsuitable licence. That takes out GFDL, GPL, LGPL, etc because (a) they all force the inclusion of licence full text and (b) they are written for different media anyway. Exclusions necessary for screenshots, etc. Some others think we should go for this instead (I think it can wait).
  3. Rationalise acceptable licences to just a few. Some have called for a simplification. Certainly it confuses reusers to be presented with umpteen supposedly free licences that they need to interpret before reusing. Could there be a minimal set that are fully accepted along with a few exceptions?
So still contemplating strategy and wording before going live... Colin (talk) 09:55, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Valued images: MVR bot cleaning

[edit]

Hello,

Commons:Valued image candidates/Most valued review candidate list‎ has been clean of closed nomination since a long time. Is your bot programmed to do that? If not, what should be done? I already asked this 2 months ago. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:26, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm on travel right now. Back on the weekend! --Dschwen (talk) 08:32, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, upon second look, I don't quite understand the question. Are the closed nominations not archived? --Dschwen (talk) 18:20, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas

[edit]

Hello Daniel. I am from wiki France, and I'd like to add a map of coordinates of an old railroad in an article using WikiMiniAtlas (blue line). I've browsed through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridgwater_and_Taunton_Canal but could not find the KML data attached to the Coord. Please could you show me these first steps ? (I know that WikiMiniAtlas is enabled on wiki fr; see http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stade_Olympique_de_Montréal; I also know programming in KML). Thanking you by advance, Jack ma (talk) 06:06, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! The KML data is located at en:Template:Attached KML/Bridgwater_and_Taunton_Canal. I'll have to enable KML processing on fr wiki. Just copy the Attached KML template over to fr.wiki (and give it localized name) then I'll make the necessary changes. --Dschwen (talk) 12:58, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I've just created fr:Modèle:KML joint and replace "en" with "fr" and with the localized name of the template. I also created fr:Modèle:KML joint/Ligne CFD Angoulême - Matha to test.
For your information, on wiki fr, we also have fr:Modèle:KML to collect all coords in a page (and linked pages/categories) and propose Google Maps, Bing and KML.
Many thanks for your help, Jack ma (talk) 09:22, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Could you add the template to fr:Ligne CFD Angoulême - Matha? Then I can start modifying the WMA to detect it. --Dschwen (talk) 18:16, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done and {{kml}} as well. Regards, Jack ma (talk) 08:20, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Did you mean to do this? Colin (talk) 14:13, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, I was browsing commons in bed on my Nexus 7 :-D. The watchlist line was wrapped so that rollback was right below diff. D'Oh. Anyhow, fat fingers. I panicked a bit, but I did revert my revert, didn't I? --Dschwen (talk) 17:05, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

VICbot hasn't run on this page in a long time. Is it normal? -- King of 19:23, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand. I'm running the bot manually now and it tells me that all nominations are already handled. But those may be regular VICs not MVRs. Let me see, maybe there was a change on the MVR page that throws the bot off. --Dschwen (talk) 00:50, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Found the problem
the string <!-- VICBOT_ON --> was not found on page Commons:Valued_image_candidates/Most valued review candidate list
Someone must have accidentally removed it. --Dschwen (talk) 00:54, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Crap, that didn't do it. --Dschwen (talk) 01:06, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, got it. In principle it works now, but once a nomination page hasn't been touched for more than 5 days it falls off the bot's radar. --Dschwen (talk) 23:00, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done touched the old noms manually and the bot archived them properly. --Dschwen (talk) 23:01, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki loves monuments

[edit]

Hi Daniel, I entered in the Wiki Loves Monuments contest and entered the Cleveland West Pierhead Lighthouse picture and wanted to say thank you for voting on my picture. I am an amateur photographer and have only been doing it more seriously for about a year, so it was good to see professionals' views on the picture. Mtbangert (talk) 21:14, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mtbangert, your lighthouse shot turned out really beautiful. If this was the result of just one year of taking photography seriously I'm looking forward to your entries next year. Cheers Dschwen (talk) 03:20, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Maps

[edit]

I have copied maps using my iphone and other cameras from which I do not know how to suppress the exif data and your bot keeps coming back to tag incorrectly using the exif data (is there any way other than putting no bots in the file info to prevent the bot returning?) SatuSuro (talk) 00:22, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The solution is not to suppress the bot, but use correct geotagging on ypur images. If there is a {{Location}} template on the image page the bot won't bother you. --Dschwen (talk) 00:59, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A copy of a map is not a locatable item... there is no location required...

The convenience of being able to copy an item with an iphone has been lost - to circumvent repeated visits by the bot I shall have to scan the images which will alleviate the problem - I hope, as there should be no exif data that can be played with by the bot It is a pity that you dont have a 'switch' for copies of maps or images that have been made from cameras, unless there is a way of suppressing exif/location that I havent discovered yet... SatuSuro (talk) 08:29, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You'll need a program to remove the GPS data from the EXIF data or on my iPhone, I've found that having it on Airport mode stops the GPS from working (ie: no GPS data in the EXIF). Bidgee (talk) 08:42, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dschwen - well done on your clear vote for higher planes of existence - sorry to have bothered you and your bot ...

I have had the issue solved by bidgee - I simply put my iphone on airport mode in future... However I imagine location bots will no doubt keep tagging copies of maps and photos while the exif data exists... SatuSuro (talk) 10:47, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh,sorry,I misunderstood what you meant with copies of mp! There is a template {{Location not applicable}} or something along those lines. I will make sure I find out what it is called and that my not honors it. --Dschwen (talk) 12:09, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking of {{Location withheld}}, but that is not quite what you want.I'll add a flag to my bot! --Dschwen (talk) 12:16, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But there is Category:Location not applicable and the bot already checks for that and skips images in this categpry. So that would have been the helpful answer last night :-(. Anyhow, better late than never. --Dschwen (talk) 13:08, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm working on an FAQ now that will be linked from the bot's edit summary. If you have any ideas I'd appreciate your contributions. --Dschwen (talk) 15:20, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is the VICBot operating daily?

[edit]

Hi:

I see many of the VIC nominations which were promoted long back, are still in the nomination page. Is the bot operating correctly? Can you please check?

Thanks. -- Dey.sandip (talk) 18:16, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dey.sandip, the VICbot is indeed running daily! You can check for your self at Special:Contributions/VICbot. There are technical reasons for the bot to skip nomination pages that have exceeded a certain age since the last modification. This means that after a bot failure or after someone deactivates the bot (which accidentally happend when a user removed a trigger-line on the VIC page) a few nominations can become stale and will be ignored. Changing this would require me to change the way the bot works in a major way. Unfortunately I do not have much time to spare for this issue right now. But you can perform simple null edits (inserting a comment for example) to make the stale nominations visible to the bot again. --Dschwen (talk) 17:38, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hm... I have looked at the situation a bit more. I'm seriously considering a rewrite of VICbot now. There is a bunch of things I'd do differently nowadays. Let me see. --Dschwen (talk) 17:57, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I made a null edit to all stall nominations. I hope it fix the issue. Regards, Yann (talk) 10:45, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. Let me know how it goes. --Dschwen (talk) 19:20, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New QIC template

[edit]

A new template was created for the purpose of closing CRs in QIC: {{QICresult}}. It takes the same parameters as {{QICtotal}}, but indicates that the voting is over. If you could modify QICbot to automatically process CRs that have QICresult at the end of them, that would be great. Thanks, King of 03:27, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Restoring the deleted section as a reminder. The new template does not affect the way the bot operates. It only looks at the Discuss/Decline/Promote templates that wrap the nomination. --Dschwen (talk) 22:58, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

--Dschwen (talk) 05:27, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The bot implementers curse

[edit]

Hi Daniel,

One of the curses of taking your spare time to implement a bot such as VICbot without getting paid is receiving the complaints when it is not running as intended - often due to issues not under the bot implementers control. Clin

This may be one of those occasions. COM:VIC is stalled as the bot has not done a proper run since November 25. Instead of complaining, I would like to ask: Is there anything I can do to help? Could it be some subpage that has become too large? Any ideas from the logs where it goes wrong. I see it does the random replacement of images in the sample gallery, but that is it. --Slaunger (talk) 20:01, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yikes! The bot completely fails with a python error. AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'Family'. Maybe some changes in pywikipediabot? Will investigate. Sorry about that! --Dschwen (talk) 00:15, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, bot runs, but doesn't do anything useful. You can help me by telling me what the bot should be doing! Point out candidates that should be promoted according to the VIC rules. --Dschwen (talk) 00:27, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Good that the module error is fixed. It is pretty simple. Have a look at the top of Commons:Valued image candidates/candidate list. There are for starters 9 promoted VICs ready to be handled by the bot. See the text saying it will be handled by the bot at either 0:18 or 12:18. --Slaunger (talk) 07:35, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I told the bot to look at older nominations, and it processed a few. Some still remained on the page though. On closer look it turned out to be the way the nominator signed (using the Gebruiker: rather than User:). The bot could not detect that. --Dschwen (talk) 18:22, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I did not entirely understand the signature error. Anyway. Do you have any ideas why the bot has not processed the nominations promoted on November 9? --Slaunger (talk) 21:51, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have some idea about what is going wrong. The bot performs a db request for nomination pages. The nominations that are not touched by the bot never appear in the DB result. I'm investigating why. --Dschwen (talk) 23:38, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
qicvic@sql-s4:commonswiki_p> select * from page where page_title='Valued_image_candidates/Domaine_Carneros_2011.jpg' and page_namespace=4;
Empty set (0.00 sec)

I'm either missing something here, or the database mirror on the toolserver is broken or out of sync. The page exists on the wiki (it is one of the untouched nominations). --Dschwen (talk) 23:43, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm not missing anything. The default database copy for commons on teh toolserver is incomplete. This sucks. I've switched to a different db cluster, let's see. This is frustrating. --Dschwen (talk) 00:08, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question about QICbot

[edit]

Hi Daniel, my image File:Börse (Hamburg-Altstadt).Skulptur Theorie und Praxis in Wissenschaft und Technik.3.ajb.jpg.jpg was today promoted as quality image. I was noticed on my talk page, but the image was not tagged as quality image by QICbot. Are there any problems, e.g. due to the strange files extension ".jpg.jpg" (... I like file renaming under Win 7 ;-)? Thanks --Ajepbah (talk) 13:07, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can always check out the bot log files. Here is the one of the run that should have tagged your file. It says
Oops Börse (Hamburg-Altstadt).Skulptur Theorie und Praxis in Wissenschaft und Technik.3.ajb.jpg.jpg doesn't exist...
Hmm, might be a UTF problem. Odd, that should work, we have files with UTF chars in the names all the time. --Dschwen (talk) 17:42, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for info! Have I to do anything with this file, or may the problem be fixed automatically (or by a helping hand)? --Ajepbah (talk) 19:58, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You could tag it yourself for now. --Dschwen (talk) 23:04, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

REverse Geocoding

[edit]

Danke. --Kolossos (talk) 20:24, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The QICbot is on holiday

[edit]

...yes, apparently it is. --A.Savin 12:35, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And again, looking at the bot logs provides an answer. --Dschwen (talk) 15:08, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not for a luser like me, I'm sorry. --A.Savin 18:56, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I guess I have to advertise the link to the logs more prominently. The error message is due to the partition holding the home directories on wikimedia labs having run out of space. I reported the issue and we'll have to wait until the admins react. I thought that moving from the toolserver to wikimedia labs would improve stability, but labs is not quite as mature as I would have liked it to be. Anyhow, the bot will automatically resume its work once the problem on labs is solved. --Dschwen (talk) 21:10, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

QIC bot still on holiday?

[edit]

Hi Daniel, since December 18th the QICbot log says

IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/home/dschwen/qic_bot/logs/commands.log'

and interrupts. Was anything went wrong there? --Ajepbah (talk) 21:50, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, there is a big change on Wikimedia Labs that caused the home directories to go read only. Let me see if I can work around this. --Dschwen (talk) 20:17, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! The QIC list is now cleaned up, but at least for my promoted images no file page edit and no notification occurred. In the logs is no obvious regarding this files. May you have a look at this? --Ajepbah (talk) 10:47, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Update: Notification and change of file page were done today! --Ajepbah (talk) 13:55, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dschwenbot

[edit]

--Mazbln (talk) 17:16, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

VICbot is inoperative since January 1st

[edit]

Hello Daniel,
Firstly, I whish you a very happy new year 2013!
It seems that VICbot didn't pass well from 2012 to 2013. Since January 1st, it has only prepared daily random samples of four valued images, but it hasn't processed any closed VIC ->VICbot contributions. Many closed VICs are waiting to be processed: Commons:Valued image candidates/candidate list. Could you see what the problem is? Many thanks in advance. Kind regards, --Myrabella (talk) 15:39, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Daniel, Would you please allow me to ask you the question again? VIC bot seems very inoperative: VICbot contributions. Many thanks in advance, --Myrabella (talk) 07:46, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, the bot process is running (otherwise the random sample wouldn't be generated). Odd. I'll have a look. --Dschwen (talk) 15:00, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you a lot in advance. Any clue? --Myrabella (talk) 19:30, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Quotation marks in candidate list. To confuse us, inserted in the afternoon of 12-31. --Ikar.us (talk) 01:35, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, it was added later. But after removing it, he works!? --Ikar.us (talk) 02:01, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Now he hasn't worked at all since two days. --Ikar.us (talk) 15:08, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The reason is a database maintenance on the toolserver. The commons copy the bot is working with is being reimported and currently unavailable. --Dschwen (talk) 17:02, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Seems to be still not working, as there are unprocessed closures going back 5 days (1/19). Any information on this? cmadler (talk) 13:57, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Since this was posted to a public mailing list it is probably ok to reshare. This is what the Toolserver admin posted about the db reimport two days ago. --Dschwen (talk) 14:48, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello all,
just if somebody wonders: The import is still running – and no I have no idea
when it will be done. I will message you when it is done. Sorry for the
trouble.
Sincerely,
DaB.
Sorry, that is all I know. It is a fairly routine maintenance though, so the bot should eventually come back. --Dschwen (talk) 14:48, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

VICbot not working

[edit]

Hello,

VICbot has not worked since Jamuary 17. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:13, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Already replied to this four sections above. The commons database copy on the toolserver is under maintenance and nuot usable at this time. --Dschwen (talk) 16:15, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am new here, but would be glad to help out if given permission to do so (I have no idea if one needs to be an editor or have been a member for some time to make nomination closures). Thanks - Godot13 (talk) 21:26, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've been waiting for you! Ha, just kidding. The database maintenance will be done in a few days (at most) the bot should just resume its work then. You are welcome to help, but at this point it is probably a waste of your time, since the bot will be back an will do that work automatically. --Dschwen (talk) 23:37, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thumbnail not showing.

[edit]

Hello Dschwen, sorry to disturb you. I want to ask you, I've uploaded these two images File:Tagetes patula, Burdwan, West Bengal, India 22 01 2013 (1).jpg and File:Tagetes patula, Burdwan, West Bengal, India 22 01 2013 (2).jpg several times but still thumbnails are not showing. Is there any problem with my browser or any error in Wikimedia server? -- Joydeep Talk 17:44, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What has Dschwen to do with thumbnail creation? This is a basic internal feature of MediaWiki, not done by bots.
Thumbnails are available for all but the recent version of your files. It says the soure file for the thumbnail creation is missing. Reverting to a previous version, which had a thumbnail, doesn't help. I suggest to wait until database migration is complete, before complaining.
--Ikar.us (talk) 18:01, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
"What has Dschwen to do with thumbnail creation?" -- I have not asked Dschwen to do anything. I think I have that much knowledge to know that thumbnails are not created by bots. I just wanted to know the reason for the problem (is it my browser or server). -- Joydeep Talk 18:06, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So why do you ask on his talk page?
I get no thumbnails for your pictures either, so the problem is not in your browser.
And if thumbnails are created for the older versions, the problem isn't in your files.
It must be on the server.
However, database migration was reported complete on Tuesday. So your case might be worth a bug report.
--Ikar.us (talk) 18:53, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Joydeep. No problem. I do see the thumbnails on the image pages. Might have been a temporary overload of the image processing servers. The toolserver database maintenance has nothing to do with this. If you try to open a failed thumbnail in a new browser tab you can sometimes see an error message that might indicate why it failed. --Dschwen (talk) 21:13, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Dschwen, now I can see the thumbnails too. By the way, I have asked you the question as I know you are a veteran and knowledgeable Wikimedian, should I take others permission to ask on your talk page? -- Joydeep Talk 05:44, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The reason was in fact incomplete migration: [6]

The problem was the mixed use of two different memcached clusters (tampa/eqiad)
caused by switching apaches to eqiad but leaving some scaling in tampa
(such as in the 404 handler in swift).

Edit request

Hallo, I added an edit request at the bottom of MediaWiki_talk:CollapsibleTemplates.js#Links_in_header three weeks ago, but it seems noone have noticed. I did a mistake in my original diff by leaving out the original case, but I provided an updated diff now, so it should be easy to resolve. Could you have a look at it? QICbot stalled 2013-01-28

[edit]

QICbot seems to have stalled - it edited the archive, but never added QI notification on images or talk pages. -mattbuck (Talk) 08:00, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that sucks, but nothing I can do about. Check http://bots.wmflabs.org/~dschwen/qicbot/Mon_Jan_28_06:17:06_UTC_2013.txt it reveals the problem was the on the Wikimedia server side. The API was non-responsive for a few hours. :-( --Dschwen (talk) 16:21, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

phwaor !

[edit]

hey, it never hurts to ask, do you know a linux solution for counting the pixels in animated gifs up to the commons limit ? at the moment I pretty much have to guess, and mathematics doesn't really work because the gifs are optimised and every frame has a different count. It is not real important at all, but it would be cool to know whilst I'm making the image so I don't need to scale and reupload it a few times, scaling is never pretty. Just thought I'd ask after I saw your comment about thumbs at the VP. Penyulap 18:02, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Uhm, good question. Do you really need to count pixels that way? Isn't the limitation based on the frame size? (this is obvious to determine, 'convert -verbose file.gif /dev/null' outputs it for example). --Dschwen (talk) 22:21, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, yes and no. The first frame is counted once, after that change is counted. That command shows each frame, but no total :(

Here is an example, it's a picture with an animated middle. This makes it easier to handle than the little trains in userboxes where the overlay command has always gone haywire when the ubx is moved to someone's formatted userpage, a single gif behaves itself a lot better, and the price paid is only the first frame. Each frame after that seems to add just 90x20 pixels to the tally which suggests I could have a little television with a long movie on it, like this or this in the middle of a lounge-room scene. But a way to add up all the frames would be cool, cause I can fit more commercials into the breaks, and we all need more commercials on TV. People love commercials. Verlinkung meiner Homepage an den Bildern

[edit]

Bist du dabei? http://de.wikiversity.org/wiki/Mit_einer_Billigknipse_zu_guten_Fotos Was hältst du davon?
--Dschwen (talk) 22:17, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

--Dschwen (talk) 22:48, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WikiMiniAtlas projection

[edit]

Hi, I realise this might not be the best place but it will do; I couldn't find if this has been raised before. IMO WikiMiniAtlas has a major drawback that limits its utility compared to images on Commons or external map providers: It uses a plate carrée projection. This is fine at tropical latitudes, but there's severe distortion at temperate latitudes.

51°10′00″N 4°40′00″W / 51.166667°N 4.666667°W / 51.166667; -4.666667 As an example, these coordinates are for the island of Lundy, which is about 5 km long in the N-S direction, and 1.2 km in the W-E, making it a good example. At that latitude, WMA is visibly compressed in the N-S direction, as is apparent if compared to OSM (or Google or...) of the same area. The same is clearly visible at larger scale if looking at the broader geography of area.

The net effect is to give a misleading impression of the local geography. A better projection would help, the obvious choice is the same as OSM - EPSG:3857.

Not sure how difficult this would be to implement, but certainly worthwhile...--Nilfanion (talk) 01:51, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nilfanion, changing the projection is a major task, as there are a lot of components to the WMA which would require changing. Map tiles, the label system, overlay code (for outlines and 3d buildings), satellite maps of planetary bodies that are not available in webmercator (I would have to convert those) etc. I agree that webmercator is a common projection and probably what people today are "used" to seeing. The advantage of webmercator is seen at high zoom levels, where no angular distortion can be noticed. However there are a number of drawbacks to webmercator. The areas at lower zoom levels are more distorted than fot plate caree, and more importantly webmercator is unable to map coordinates near the poles. We have a bunch of articles with coordinates in the polar regions. Those would be unavailable on a webmercator map. I've been thinking back and forth about how to best approach this for quite some time now. And I certainly have heard this complaint before. I don't have a good answer (yet!). --Dschwen (talk) 17:01, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I figured as much (its clearly a lot of work). Webmercator may well be what people are "used to", and there is no such thing as the "best" projection for all purposes, but it gives a reasonably "true" result at most latitudes. A projection centred on the pole will be better than any centred on the equator, for polar subjects. Adding something about the projection to the FAQ (what projection does WMA use?) should address queries like mine.
If you want a suggestion (ignoring technical difficulty): How about changing tack entirely and switching to orthographic projections? At high zoom levels, you get low distortion. At low zoom you get a globe. Both of which are good outputs. Unlike plate carree, webmercator or similar, it also works at the poles themselves. The problem is at moderate zoom, when you can see the effects of the Earth's curvature, but its not immediately apparent its a globe. That projection is even more suitable for non-Earth subjects, as people aren't used to seeing the Moon as a flat rectangular map.
Its certainly feasible, after all WMA uses a small globe as a locator...--Nilfanion (talk) 23:20, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it is not completely unfeasible. I did a fair bit of WebGL work very recently. Check out Now York City at high zoom levels. It's got shiny new WebGL 3d building models since last weekend! I've been thinking of making it completely WebGL (i.e. a globe), but that would kill WMA for all IE users. Right now those guys just don't get the nav globe, and they get wireframe buildings (IE9+) or no buildings (older IE). At least it degrades gracefully. There are more subtle problems as well. The rendering algorithms have to be aware of the projection, so that when you map the tiles onto a sphere the line widths stay constant. Not straight forward. Of course there is always the possibility of renvering everything client-side using webgl. I.e. even the roads will be composed of webGL triangles. That means a humongous amount of data has to be transferred and processed in the browser. I don't think we are quite there yet. --Dschwen (talk) 23:28, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, sounds... complicated. Does appeal as a long term objective though. The buildings do look good :)
A method that could improve things would be to switch from plate carree to a different equirectangular projection. Plate carree is only distortion free at the equator, while other equirectangular projections work better at other latitudes. eg If a standard latitude of 30° was adopted then temperate distortion is reduced, at the cost of adding equatorial distortion (stretching).
Getting more complex, using multiple equirectangular projections could work. At low zoom, use plate carree. At high zoom, use an equirectangular projection appropriate to the latitude shown. eg use plate carree from the equator to 5 degrees, use a standard of 10 from 5-15... Mid zooms could transition between the two extremes somehow (use broader bands maybe). The problem then is the transition between projections. The plus to sticking to equirectangular projections is the work involved is lower than for any other projection type (just have to stretch the tiles).--Nilfanion (talk) 11:18, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your bot (DschwenBot) is breaking the information template on file pages when it is adding the {{Location}} template. Example. Bidgee (talk) 03:38, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Admin?

[edit]

Was meinst du?

Wow ueber 6 Jahre her.
Das steht unter COM:A#How do I become an administrator?. -- Rillke(q?) 17:38, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dschwen, I'm disappointed that you assigned User:Fastily. He resigned in 2012 with some controversies (several admin noticeboard topics around that time) and he generally is a bad careless admin who caused a lot of problems downstream. I think it would be better if he'd jut apply for adminship like everybody else to see if he still has support. Multichill (talk) 11:32, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry multichill. As far as I know it is customary to give the bit back to admins who resigned voluntarily. Maybe I should have researched more into Fastily's past. But I did not have any bad memories about him that would have prompted me to do so. In any case, it is not uncommon for admins to be called out on the noticeboard, and if severe issues had come up a deadmin process should have been started. --Dschwen (talk) 16:09, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You suck as an admin, you're about to get a deadmin, you resign, you wait a couple of months, you ask your bit back, you do like nothing has happened. Nice trick. Multichill (talk) 17:50, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That would indeed be an issue if the you're about to get a de-admin part were true. I did read up a bit on Fastily's history and while I see some cases of him being a bit over eagerly I do not see a de-admin on the horizon. I'm willing to assume good faith here and see what is going to happen. Quite some time has passed since Fastily's early admin actions, and I am willing to believe that he can be a bit more mellow with is tools. Looking back I doubt that he acted out of malice, and it looks to me that he tried to make honest efforts to reducing the admin back logs. I'll drop him a note on his talk page to let him know about the concerns. --Dschwen (talk) 19:37, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Multichill and I disagreed once in the past, and since then, he's made it his mission to belittle, harass, and childishly attack me at every opportunity (most recently here). I've moved past it, but he clearly is incapable of doing so. It's a bit sad really. Regards, FASTILY (TALK) 20:33, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
At this point I'm not particularly interested in rehashing every past disagreement. If there is nothing new to say at this point we should leave it at that. If any new issues should come up feel free to discuss it at COM:AN. Cheers --Dschwen (talk) 21:01, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I will start very soon a deadminship procedure, according the DR closures and the lie on #wikimedia-commons, where he declared he won't close any more DR, but will use tools for development purpose only.
I'll try to save this last possibility, arguing a social restriction of tools use, but clealy, Multichill is right, the tools given back to Fastily are problematic. --Dereckson (talk) 00:17, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I agree. In hindsight is was not a good decision to give back the flag. --Dschwen (talk) 21:49, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This is done on Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/User_problems#Fastily (Permament link). --Dereckson (talk) 00:36, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Licensing again

[edit]

Hi Dschwen,

A while back I contacted you about a gestating proposal wrt GFDL (see further up this page). The feedback I got from that from various people was that we should aim at all inappropriate license choices, not specifically GFDL. I've had a go at another proposal at User:Colin/AppropriatelyLicensed. Early draft. What do you think of that approach? I'm in no rush to go live with this after the pain over on Wikipedia. What is your feel for its chances. Would it help to produce a version of the proposal in other languages (German/French, hint hint)? Any changes you suggest? Cheers, Colin (talk) 10:22, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is a good approach. Might need some layout candy to make the main messages more accessible to a casual reader. I can help with a german translation. I wonder if it makes sense to notify the foundation of this proposal and request their opinion. After all it is about the core values of Wikimedia. --Dschwen (talk) 14:45, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Agree it is a little rough at present. I think it needs a wide input (hence translations occurred to me) and ideally some indication that the foundation approves of the proposal (even if they leave it up to us to agree to it). Even better would be an indication from some of them that they do desire this change. That might put some of those who think they are God's gift to photography in their place :-) The last time this came up on Commons, I asked Erik Möller some questions. I copied his response as a quote in User:Colin/AppropriatelyLicensed/FAQ. I've created the FAQ as a place to dump responses to all the objections we've had at the Commons and WP FPs. Feel free to suggest and improve. Colin (talk) 15:02, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't take you guys long to start this thing after the debate at WP:FP. The God's gift to photography thing makes this whole thing look a lot like a way to get revenge for some sort of personal dispute, rather than some sort of righteous and holy battle for the future of Commons. So be careful with comments like that. :P JJ Harrison (talk) 00:17, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry you feel that way JJ. This is nothing personal. But the fact that you do not see the importance of free licensing and think this is a revenge seems to be the deep root of this problem. --Dschwen (talk) 19:56, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
JJ, that comment certainly wasn't aimed at you. I meant what I said on your talk page -- you really are a remarkable photographer and contributor. I can think of very few photographers who would be a huge loss if they left/moved-on but you are certainly in that category. Your arguments at the debate I didn't agree with but at least were reasonable. My point about "God's gift to photography" was that a few gave their reason essentially that this will stop them contributing (or earning bronze stars) and their contributions are more important than the entire project's mission: free content. Anyone who looks at the variety of picture content on Wikipedia and Commons (including the good stuff) should realise that the contributions using GFDL-only don't amount to a hill of beans. I'd love to see some argument for GFDL based on some solid foundation rather than hubris. Colin (talk) 20:32, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Transamerica Pyramid photo

[edit]

Hi, just wanted to mention that a poster of your Transamerica Pyramid photo is being sold on eBay, in case you were unaware. Cheers, CrankyScorpion (talk) 02:09, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I've seen that happen before. Totally fine. --Dschwen (talk) 03:56, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

EXIF-Daten

[edit]
unvollständige EXIF-Datenansicht

Hallo Daniel,

Beispielbild anbei. In meinen EXIF-Daten steht: Objektiv-Modell: EF28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM. Viele Grüße, Heinrich (--Alchemist-hp (talk) 00:08, 23 March 2013 (UTC))[reply]

vollständige Metadaten auf regex.info
Bawolff has an extensive knowledge about Matadata-Extraction. It may be wise to ask him.

Gruß --Pelz (talk) 18:12, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The translations of Commons:WikiMiniAtlas/Translations#Two part don't work any language. For example O Rosal. --Vivaelcelta {talk  · contributions} 03:24, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, right, hmmm. It works on the different language wikipedias the WMA is embedded. But it should work on commons as well. I'm currently on a work related deadline, but I will look at this next week. --Dschwen (talk) 23:12, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DschwenBot breaking image descriptions

[edit]

Hi, your bot has broken some {{Information}} templates, for example here and here. You should probably find the rest and fix them. --Closedmouth (talk) 07:30, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I know, see above. Bot is suspended. And see top of my userpage. Cheers --Dschwen (talk) 15:28, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Running a fix-it bot now. --Dschwen (talk) 15:20, 29 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like every screwup had been fixed by hand already. --Dschwen (talk) 15:31, 29 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, issue still hasn't been fixed/reverted. I don't have time ATM to look at every upload but at random File:Canberra Airport terminal (8).jpg. Bidgee (talk) 22:19, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, there is an easy explanation. I thought only Android uploads were affected. I'm rerunning the fix-it-bot for iOS uploads now. --Dschwen (talk) 22:52, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

QICbot problem

[edit]

Hi. The bot closed my nomination but forgot to promote the picture. Should I do it manually? How? Thanks. Gidip (talk) 15:20, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The site was not responding to the bot edit attempts for a long time, so the bot gave up [8]. Yes, you'll have to do it manually. --Dschwen (talk) 18:17, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Today we had the same problem and bot's edit in QIC was reverted. Yesterday that was not possible easily due to later reaction, so I did the following:
  • Undo the edit in the March archive site
  • Took that edit and copied it back in the QIC page, as a whole under March 27th
Today I had expected that that whole block under March 27th is swept away by the bot. But it didn't take it. Why that? Should I cut that big lump of March 27th smaller into the corresponding days?. I though that the bot just removes declines/promotions with a veridict older than 2 days, independently of where they are. Regards, Poco a poco (talk) 11:25, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Poco a poco, thanks for helping with this! Yes, the bot does not care what section teh nominations are in. You can paste it all back as one block (careful about the Template names, the bot adds a ../ in front). I have done this many times before and it always worked. It looks like there is something wrong with the Commons site API. We had similar errors before. --Dschwen (talk) 16:02, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see, the addition of ".." was the piece of information I was missing. I didn't realize that, thanks and regards, --Poco a poco (talk) 16:37, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DschwenBot not extracting GPS location from Lightroom-made metadata ?

[edit]

Hi,

I noticed DschwenBot didn't extract location from my last upload batch, while Mediawiki correctly gets the latitude/longitude, such as in this file. The location was added in Adobe Lightroom 4.3, any idea why the bot didn't process it ? --EdouardHue (talk) 20:09, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I notified the same problem. All of my recent uploads are geo-tagged by Adobe Lightroom, none of them is handled by DschwenBot up to now. --Hasenläufer (talk) 16:38, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The file above was tagged by the bot. I don't think this is a lightroom issue. Hasenlaeufer, I'll look at your uploads. --Dschwen (talk) 19:47, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Any idea why the bot didn't notice the other files from the same batch (roughly my last 60 uploads) ? Note I didn't use the upload wizard but a Commonist-like tool that I'm developing, which uses Mediawiki's API : could this be part of the explanation ? --EdouardHue (talk) 22:24, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm sure that is not it. Propably a database lag issue between wikimedia and the toolserver. It should show up eventually. Ask me again if it doesn't. I'll be gone for a week though. --Dschwen (talk) 22:42, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll wait & see ! --EdouardHue (talk) 06:57, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Any news? --Hasenläufer (talk) 00:09, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DelReqHandler issue

[edit]

Hi Dschwen. Any idea on how to get some attention on this issue? I don't want the DRs to pile up, but this problem has been going on for about 6 weeks now. Thanks for your time. INeverCry 19:06, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I had filed a similar bug a while ago. The broken API screwed up my bots. This is annoying. You could try mentioning it on IRC. But a bugzilla bugreport is the preferred way. People can comment on the bug to show that it affects many people. --Dschwen (talk) 21:32, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've commented and voted at the bug report. I hope they figure this out soon. My reason for posting about it was to get more eyes on it and atleast a slight hint of urgency. INeverCry 21:48, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bot

[edit]

Danke! --05:41, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

Hab ihn laufen lassen. Hats geholfen? --Dschwen (talk) 21:30, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
--Dschwen (talk) 13:14, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ist der Bot oder Toolserver defekt? Bis heute keine Läufe. Gruß --störfix (talk) 05:33, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

--Dschwen (talk) 15:46, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
--störfix (talk) 19:09, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Verärgert: --Pelz (talk) 22:09, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cave-in-Rock

[edit]

Curious about File:Cave-in-rock IL.jpg — do you have some sort of ultra-zoom-out lens? When I visited the site a week ago, I had a hard time getting anything more than the opening of the cave, even though I backed up all the way to the edge of the river. Nyttend (talk) 01:50, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ha. I took this picture with a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0 L lens (on a full frame camera). It is pretty wide, but not wide enough. That is why I stitched it from four shots (I believe) using Hugin. Do you live in the midwest? I used to live in East-Central Illinois. I went down twice to Shawnee. Probably one of the most beautiful regions in comfortable driving distance from where I lived. --Dschwen (talk) 16:37, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
[Sorry; I just now remembered that I'd never come back]. Now I understand; didn't think of stitching, so all I could guess was the ultra-zoom-out lens or that you'd taken it from a boat. I didn't enjoy the scenery too well, but only because it was a badly rainy day (I was on a trip as far as northeastern Arkansas and didn't have any other weeks that would have worked); Cave-in-Rock was wonderful, if for no other reason than that it wasn't raining inside :-) I'm in Indiana; I was one of the people at Category:Backstage Pass 2 at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. Nyttend (talk) 15:05, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry for writing in English. I'm writing to ask you, as a bureaucrat of this wiki, to translate and review the notification that will be sent to all users, also on this wiki, who will be forced to change their user name on May 27 and will probably need your help with renames. You may also want to help with the pages m:Rename practices and m:Global rename policy. Thank you, Nemo 12:58, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I reviewed the german translation. Looks ok. Except for the weird term Abschlussankündigung. --Dschwen (talk) 16:21, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dude!

[edit]

No need to get aggressive. I undid the changes as soon as I could, while you were shouting and complaining. If the scripts had been robust, the problem wouldn't have arisen and the issue would've been moot. I don't see why you should blame me?  B.p. 17:23, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The "dude" was not meant to be aggressive. I appreciate you reverting the change. --Dschwen (talk) 19:21, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK. My reaction was also over the top.  B.p. 21:40, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

QICbot problem

[edit]

Hi Dschwen, please, have a look here. There is something basic wrong I guess. Since the 14th the bot didn't edit anything. Regards, Poco a poco (talk) 14:40, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A clock time of 47:50 is basically wrong, of course. Fixed it. --Ikar.us (talk) 15:47, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks man. Scary how easy it is to break the bot... --Dschwen (talk) 14:44, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

GPS EXIF

[edit]

Your bot stopped processing Category:Media with GPS EXIF about 8 days ago. Is it broken? ghouston (talk) 00:51, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, its broken. The toolserver is not performing well at all at the moment. It cannot handle the bot anymore :-(. --Dschwen (talk) 15:32, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
--Pelz (talk) 22:11, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Den Fragen möchte ich mich anschließen. Zeitweilig hat DschwenBot gearbeitet, jedoch der letzte Eintrag creating Location from EXIF data stammt vom 6. Juni 2013. Ist die Ursache stets ein überlasteter Toolserver? Gruß, --Hasenläufer (talk) 16:28, 23 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

QICbot not running properly?

[edit]

Is there a problem with the QICbot for the last 2 or 3 days? It seems as if the Bot takes nominated images out of the list of candidates but did no further working as categorization as QI. Could you please check. --Dirtsc (talk) 06:21, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cn you please check, why the bot did not run during the last two days? Last run seems to have been on May 23. --Dirtsc (talk) 09:28, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

CatScan

[edit]

Hallo Dschwen

(https://toolserver.org/~daniel/WikiSense/CategoryIntersect.php?wikifam=commons.wikimedia.org&basecat=clocks&basedeep=6&mode=rc&hours=100&go=Scannen&format=html&userlang=de). Danke!

Liebe Grüße --Karel K. (talk) 08:37, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

--Dschwen (talk) 22:15, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
--Karel K. (talk) 08:19, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is solved. Sorry --Clément Bardot (talk) 06:56, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Koordinaten auf Karte markieren

[edit]

Danke. -- Rillke(q?) 22:08, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

--Dschwen (talk) 16:30, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
-- Rillke(q?) 16:52, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So wirds bestimmt schneller erledigt ;-). --Dschwen (talk) 17:25, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Übrigens: Fullscreen is now natively supported by most browsers: MediaWiki:Gadget-jquery.fullscreen.js. -- Rillke(q?) 15:51, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
--Dschwen (talk) 15:57, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Einfach:

var wma_settings = { iframeurl : '//toolserver.org/~dschwen/wma/iframe_dev.html' }

in Dein user javascript setzen, dann nutzt die die dev version. --Dschwen (talk) 20:07, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Danke.

--Dschwen (talk) 15:45, 31 May 2013 (UTC) diff[reply]

When the parameter has a single tag (with optional closing tag or quick-closing) — “$( "<img />" ) or $( "<img>" ), $( "<a></a>" ) or $( "<a>" ) — jQuery creates the element using the native JavaScript createElement()”. -- Rillke(q?) 16:45, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
--Dschwen (talk) 16:50, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
ist auch so im MW-core. -- Rillke(q?) 16:52, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
--Dschwen (talk) 17:02, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
-- Rillke(q?) 17:22, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
--Dschwen (talk) 17:25, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Was meinst Du? --Dschwen (talk) 16:58, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Was denkst Du? Welches ist die beste Lösung? -- Rillke(q?) 18:45, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Danke --störfix (talk) 06:28, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Licenses for the sources of your bots?

[edit]

Are they all rights reserved or? Could you add a little comment on top of the sources explicitly stating their licensing? Palosirkka (talk) 08:45, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have specified GPL as the default license for all my projects on the toolserver. --Dschwen (talk) 16:08, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

4 Tage Blackout

[edit]

Poco a poco (talk) 12:58, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo! :-( --Dschwen (talk) 16:11, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
--Dschwen (talk)

User:VICbot tut auch seit Tagen garnix. --Ikar.us (talk) 16:13, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Schaue ich mir mal an. --Dschwen (talk) 18:03, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Venitian problem

[edit]

Small problem in VI. The Bot promoted my image: </nowiki> File:San Trovaso (Venice).jpg</nowiki> 4 times. I thank you, the Bot has great taste. But it puts out the image File:Ponte de San Trovaso (Venice).jpgfrom the list of nominations. How can we fix it? thank you for your help. --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 05:49, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Archaeodontosaurus, I'm lookig into this. The problem is rooted in how the string matching is done in the VICbot ("San Trovaso (Venice).jpg" is a substring of "Ponte de San Trovaso (Venice).jpg" which causes the wrong removal). Sorry, that part of the bot is somewhat stupid :-(. --Dschwen (talk) 16:34, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I changed the matching code. Let's see if it works. --Dschwen (talk) 23:34, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thank you I try --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 05:25, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

QI-Bot

[edit]

Hallo! Kannst du mal schauen, was da passiert ist? --Geiserich77 (talk) 06:52, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jo, danke fuer den Hinweis. Sollte jetzt gefixed sein. --Dschwen (talk) 16:32, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DMC-12 ...

[edit]

Hi. If I did not localised the pictures and erased the coord's when I've uploaded files it's just to respect private life of the owner. Would you undo what you did, please ? If i knew how to erase coord's from EXIF I'd did it. Thx. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 21:31, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'll gladly undo what I did, if you explain to me what it is. --Dschwen (talk) 21:33, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ohhhh, the bot is finally running again. Yay. Well, feel free to undo the edits and put a {{bots|deny=DschwenBot}} template on the image pages. But know this: you are not protecting anyone privacy here. In fact you are jeopardizing it yourself by making the GPS data embedded in the files available. --Dschwen (talk) 21:37, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm undoing ... I'll reupload files without coord's in EXIF and ask to blank pages. Thanks for reply. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 21:44, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'll do that. Please list the pages where you want revisions with coordinates deleted. --Dschwen (talk) 21:52, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
File:W0429-DeLorean DMC12 Int N8 2325.jpg, File:W0428-DeLorean DMC12 Av N8 2324-P.JPG and File:W0427-DeLorean DMC12 Ar N8 2326-P.JPG. Thanks for this work. Would you tell me how and with what you do that ? My cellular locates pictures and I forget to turned off this function. My friend (owner of the car) just rotten me for that ... Thx. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 22:08, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I just hid the revisions containing the coordinates. Now regular users won't be able to retrieve them anymore. How I did that? Hiding the revisions? I'm an administrator. Or do you mean how did I add the coordinates? I operate a bot that analyzes newly uploaded files regularly. --Dschwen (talk) 22:19, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot. I just wanted to know how you can erase or delete GPS coord's but I saw you wrote you hide them as an administrator ... That's why I can still see them. I guessed what your bot did, I'm not so noob lol. I've made a new version of those files, with VSO Image Resizer : EXIF deleted, higher definition (4200ko now, 1500 before), same size. May I reupload them or is it good as you did ? --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 22:32, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You are going to have to upload the images without EXIF data over the old files. I'll then also delete the old files. The info is still public otherwise. --Dschwen (talk) 22:39, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done. New versions uploaded with reason : "Same pic, same definition but no EXIF (personal GPS data) and bigger size.". I'll delete the bad template and may be this one {{bots|deny=DschwenBot}} if needed. Danke schön (Ih habe Deutch gelehrt aber Ich habe alles fergessen ...). --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 23:03, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, everything deleted. Bitte sehr :-) --Dschwen (talk) 23:15, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Was adding Template:Location withheld but just when you deleted the pages ... Thanks again and have a good weekend. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 23:18, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for responding to my request. I have responded to your posting as well. Who might know what to do in my situation? Guðsþegn (talk) 22:30, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Left a little explanation there, hope it helps. With kind regards, Savhñ 12:31, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

VICbot is down

[edit]

Hello Daniel,
It seems that VICbot has been on strike for 6 days: it has stopped working since May 29 [11]. Could you please have a look at it? Thank you very much, --Myrabella (talk) 15:49, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, I screwed up. A recent edit introduced an error that caused the bot not to run. I fixed it now. --Dschwen (talk) 17:42, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the fix! VICbot is running again \o/ --Myrabella (talk) 07:50, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
