Let's import the English Wikipedia's version of the Module/Template for Reply

[edit]

{{Editprotected}} Please, let's import:

{{{{{|safesubst:}}}#invoke:Reply to|replyto|<noinclude>example=Example</noinclude>|max=50}}<noinclude>
{{documentation}}
</noinclude>

Then I would be able to ping a user & add her/his chosen display name, instead of her/his user name. Peaceray (talk) 00:32, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done Stale, doesn't seem to be much interest in the proposed change. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 19:43, 28 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hedwig in Washington: I am interested in this too, AND the possibility to specify prefix (specified in this post, but nonfuctional) and punctuation (p) parameters, like in en:Template:Reply_to (as the default prefix is at-sign misuse, in my opinion). —Mykhal (talk) 12:49, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Hedwig in Washington: So am I. It would also allow us to "reply to up to 50 people at once" rather than just 5.   — Jeff G. ツ 13:18, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Steinsplitter: Plain import? I am not sure if the increase would break something on the way. Can we increase the pings allowed without frying anything? Honestly, I don't see the improvement to add punctuations to pings. But that's just my 2¢ --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 21:48, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your closure as not done. 50 people at once is too much, the feature can be misused. --Steinsplitter (talk) 11:48, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Steinsplitter: How about 10? Is there another number you would be comfortable with?   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 11:50, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Steinsplitter: Posts like this by Mike Peel are why we need more than 5. I'd like to revisit this, please.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 00:20, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. 5 is a low (and odd) number, I'd suggest at least 10, maybe 20. Ideally there should be an error message displayed when you try to ping more than the supported number, too. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 09:43, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Mykhal and Mike Peel: I increased the number of recipients to 10 on 10 July 2019‎. I also allowed for the use of prefix, and added prefix and p to {{Re}} as below.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 00:08, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No way to get rid of the at-sign? -- Tuválkin 17:56, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Tuválkin: You may use {{R}} for multiple recipients or {{U}} for a single recipient with a nickname, but you will be responsible for adding trailing punctuation like a colon.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:12, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Commons Template:Reply to lacks the |prefix= parameter of its Wikipedia counterpart. Why couldn't this parameter be copied over if the |p= punctuation parameter could be copied? — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR, USA (talk) 20:46, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

CJDOS and Tuvalkin: The short answer is that we don't have the "Reply to" LUA module. However, I added the prefix parameter for you in this edit and documented it in this other edit. This edit I am making right now is a production test. I also fixed a bug, now {{Re}} forwards the prefix and p parameters.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 23:58, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This template needs to be updated so as to utilize Module:Reply to (beta, ready for use) instead of those ParserFunctions. Unnamed UserName me 15:19, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Then we need at least a regular admin (not just a template admin) to protect that module appropriately, I assume. Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 18:40, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Lucas, given the 44,310 transclusions of this template.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 18:47, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I’ve filed § Module:Reply to in order for Module:Reply to to be template protected. — ExE Boss (talk) 16:25, 7 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
✓[OK] CptViraj template-protected the module. {{Reply to}} can now be updated. Unnamed UserName me 19:28, 7 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
