Summary[edit]

Description
English: The historian Franz Fiedler (1790-1876)

On the occasion of the inauguration of this memorial, Fr. Fiedler published in 1835 a first comprehensive history of the Shill's Corps and of the Eleven Officers' execution, source of inspiration for numerous postcards, chromatographies, lead soldiers, etc. [1] (p. 80-85).

Bibliography : for a recent, concise and balanced academic account on Schill's role in History : ► WILKIN, Bernard, Prussia's Rebel, in History of War [Magazine], 2020, N° 77, 46-50, ill.

The B 58 road has been named Schillstraße from the bridge over the Rhine River to the centre of Wesel.

Similarly, to honour the memory of Ferdinand Baptista von Schill (06.01.1776 – 31.05.1809), innumerable towns have given his name to streets and squares ː e.g. Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Nippes, Bottrop, Bremerhaven, Braunschweig, Nüremberg, Mainz, Greifswald, Wiesbaden, Lübeck, Hannover, Hamburg, Hildesheim, Hagen, Stralsund, Berlin, etc. etc.
